Invisalign: The Benefits of Clear Braces

Invisalign: The Benefits of Clear Braces

The invention of clear braces has taken the orthopaedic industry by storm. More and more people are utilising clear braces as an option to straighten their teeth rather than opting for the more classical metal and ceramic braces options.

Today we want to look at why Invisalign clear aligners have become such a popular choice for patients, and the many benefits they offer over their traditional metal or ceramic counterparts.

Clear and Confident

The first and most obvious advantage that Invisalign has over its traditional counterparts is that patients do not have to deal with the intrusive sight of braces on their teeth, as Invisalign aligners are clear and fit to your teeth seamlessly. The iTero Element® software is used to scan your teeth and render a 3D image which is then used to create and customise your clear aligners.

At Primecare Dental we want to make sure that everyone feels happy about their smile, and with Invisalign you can begin straight away. There’s no waiting for the metal to come off, so even while the aligners are working to straighten out your teeth, you can smile with confidence.

Know the Plan from A to Z

When you visit your dentist to see if Invisalign is right for you, they will take a scan of your teeth and build a treatment plan that you are able to easily visualise. Once the iTero Element® software has built a 3D model of your teeth and your dentist has assessed your individual needs, they will work with you to create a stage-by-stage plan that moves you toward your perfect smile.

As you change out your aligners, you will be able to see and assess your own progress, while also being fully aware of what the next stage of treatment is, and how long it is likely to take. In other words, you are able to plan your life according to the knowledge you always have on hand, giving you agency in the process.

Removable Aligners

The clear aligners click into place over your teeth for that perfect fit, but unlike braces, they don’t have to stay there. Dentists who prescribe Invisalign recommend that you keep them on for a minimum of 10 hours a day in order to see the results you are looking for, but you don’t have to keep them on when you eat. You can enjoy all of your favourite foods without having to worry about pieces getting stuck in braces or wires – no food restrictions here!

Additionally, people who have worn the traditional options generally complained about how difficult it is to actually keep their teeth clean. Brushing your teeth when you’ve got braces on is difficult and requires much more work and diligence to ensure there are no food particles lodged in and around the braces. Removable aligners, however, mean that you can take the time to clean both your teeth and the aligners thoroughly without any obstructions.

Less Painful Doctor’s Visits

With metal and ceramic braces, you typically need to visit your doctor frequently – at least once every 4 weeks. However, the construction of the Invisalign treatment plan is such that much of the treatment is self-maintained.

The moulds change around once every two weeks as they pull your teeth into alignment, and the only thing the patient has to do is swap out the old pair with the new one, meaning there will be no painful tightening of screws or bands. On top of that, the number of doctor’s visits dwindles down to around once every 8 weeks for a check-in (depending on your individual circumstances), freeing up your calendar to do more of what you love.
